Common Car Accident Injuries

When you are in a car accident, you could come away with any number of injuries. The type of injury you have depends on the circumstances of the crash and how severe the impact is. However, when examining the injuries stated in insurance claims or personal injury lawsuits, you will find that some injuries are more common than others. Here is a list of some of the most common car accident injuries.

Brain and Head Injuries –  Ranging from a mild concussion to a traumatic brain injury, head injuries are one of the most common results of a car accident. Even when there is no physical sign of trauma., bruising and other injuries can result because the brain is jostled inside the skull during the accident.

Neck Injuries – Coming in mild forms such as whiplash and neck strain, but also in more serious injuries such as cervical radiculopathy and disc injury, neck injuries are a common result from car accidents.

Back Injuries – Ranging from a sprain, strain, fracture, disc injury, thoracic spine injury, lumbar, radiculopathy, and lumbar spine injury, back injuries often occur after a car accident because of the torque on the bodies of drivers and passengers. Back injuries are especially dangerous because they can sometimes take a while to show up after an accident, they can also cause long-lasting pain and discomfort.

Face Injuries – Ranging in severity from scrapes and bruises, to laceration and fracture, even Temporomandibular disorders of the jaw (TMJ) and serious dental injuries, damage to the face is another common injury resulting from a car accident. These injuries can be caused by almost anything – including an airbag, dashboard, windshield, side window, car seats, steering wheel, or shattered glass.

Psychological Injuries -After a serious car accident, or even a minor one, driver and passengers sometimes suffer from short or long-term psychological injuries such as emotional distress. Accidents can even result in conditions that closely resemble post-traumatic stress disorder.
